‘Objects for Enhancing the Experience of Being Lost’ is a quick and dirty project made during a brief workshop in Singapore in collaboration with Michael Kontopoulos. This series of objects are inspired by the unique urban landscape of Singapore and address ideas of disorientation in a foreign city. A traveler may tote the objects around in a briefcase, using them to enhance the experience of being lost.

item 1: A collaborative compass that affords paired travelers an exercise in compromise. The travelers each points towards the directions they wish to travel in but the simple wooden mechanism of the compass always arrive at an average orientation and guides the travelers towards a compromise.

item 2: A map of Singapore made of ice which melts quickly in the tropical heat.

item 3: Blinders that simulate the experience of tunnel vision at any given location.

item 4: A Flag can be used to claim unfamiliar space, but we disliked this territorial act especially in regards to Singapore’s colonial history. Instead, a “propagating” branch is used to carry the flag which will in turn yield a new tree as a gesture of thanks.
